Spindrift Needs Your Help-kasey chase

Spindrift fans will have the opportunity to help Spindrift record their next full-length album via Kickstarter (a funding platform for creative projects). The "Classic Soundtracks" by Spindrift project page was launched November 2nd and will enable supporters to "pledge" towards the band’s goal of $5000 to fund the recording. Donors may receive merch, limited edition CDs of unreleased music or even a live, private performance by the band in return for their generous support. Open to pledges for 30 days, the funding is all or nothing so the band MUST reach their goal before collecting any money. You can find the page by going to Kickstarter and searching for "Spindrift" or by visiting the band’s website or MySpace pages: Spindrift will be performing the yet to be released album "Classic Soundtracks" in its entirety live on tour this Fall throughout the US. The album is due out on Xemu(a la Dead Meadow) Records in Spring 2011. This is a chance for fans to hear the new material and see the new lineup live. The tour culminates with a recording session in Joshua Tree, California(where the new material was written over the past year). Spindrift has added pedal steel, Native American Flute, and Autoharp to its already signature psychedelic Americana sound. Kirpatrick and Sasha’s vocals are reminiscent of the relational stylings of Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra with hints of The Doors, X, and Black Mountain. Classic Soundtracks is in essence Spindrift’s musical resume, tying together their last 3 records….The West, The Legend of Gods Gun, and Songs from the Ancient Age with even more Cinematic Soundscapes and urgency. The album will also showcase the films in which Spindrift has scored. Hailed by critics as "the most relevant band in the world today" and leaders of the neo-cosmic cowboy revolution, Spindrift deserves your immediate attention. He calls this shady hombre the "spiritual vigilante," adding a psychedelic ingredient to the mix. It is in the old films and music of Leone, Morricone and the general spirit of the Wild West that he and other neo-cosmic cowboys have excavated an essence that seems more relevant today than ever before, a surreal and dark cowboy anti-hero for a spiritually and ethically decaying world." – LA Alternative "Saddle on up for the Spindrift experience, which is sure to feel like wandering out of the sun-baked dunes of Death Valley while clutching a Flying Burrito Brothers LP and gumming a mouthful of peyote" – The Portland Mercury "It is this honesty, visionary thinking and musical acumen which makes Spindrift the most relevant band in the world today." – Soma Scene Biography: Mixing the dusty, cinematic soundscapes of old spaghetti-western films with mind-expanding Psych Rock, L.A.’s Spindrift makes music that sounds like what one would hear while tripping in the desert on a vision quest. Since 1992, Spindrift front-man Kirpatrick Thomas self-released several records with an East-coast line-up before joining the Brian Jonestown Massacre (BJM) to play guitar on a national tour and landing in Los Angeles–where the seeds were sewn for a new West-coast version of the band. Thomas’ fascination with the West stems from his childhood passion for Western films, those scored by Ennio Morricone in particular. This early influence later played a major part in his more recent songwriting and composition. Upon his arrival in Los Angeles, the local music scene immediately embraced his modern take on the genre, with members of BJM and The Warlocks joining Spindrift in fits and starts at first before eventually leaving their former positions to play with Spindrift full time. The West-coast line-up, or "Spindrift West" as they are some times called, prompted the rare phenomenon of creating a new genre unto its self, Spaghetti Western Psychedelia.
